ABOUT DRUMMORE & THE SHIP INN

ship inn

Drummore is in the South Rhins, near the Mull of Galloway and The Ship Inn is situated near Drummore's quiet beach and small harbour. The Ship Inn has been recently renovated and refurbished, to create a traditional bar downstairs and a bright, modern Bistro on 'the upper deck'.

Drummore is the most southerly village in Scotland, enjoying the mild Gulf Stream climate with delightful local gardens such as Logan Botanic Gardens and Ardwell. There are plenty of countryside walks, cycling routes, birdwatching hotspots and fishing opportunities available amongst other quiet delights in this idyllic part of Dumfries & Galloway. If you visit the Mull of Galloway there are walking trails around the RSPB reserve with stunning views towards the Lake District, Ireland and the Isle of Man. Find out more about the Mull of Galloway on the Mull of Galloway site - there's also a page on Drummore. Also check out the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse Webcam.

So, follow the A716 down to Drummore, turn left at the junction on Mill Street, and left again down by the harbour...you are sure to be given a warm welcome by our friendly, efficient staff.

 THE RESTAURANT

restaurant

For all meals at The Ship Inn, we endeavour to source all our food within Scotland, if not from Dumfries & Galloway itself. Delicious cheeses, fish, fresh vegetables and meat can all be found literally growing on our doorstep. We offer a variety of daily 'specials' to tempt you further. Our kitchen staff prepare tasty food, the emphasis being on good home-cooking, with all the traditional favourites - in addition to more modern, international dishes. Food is cooked fresh, so please be prepared to wait. We offer lighter bites for those in a hurry or with smaller appetites. Children are offered smaller portions of home-made dishes without the additives and unwanted extras often found in ready prepared foods.

The emphasis is on a warm and friendly welcome - well behaved adults with dogs and children will find us eager to accommodate them. We also have high chairs available. A carry-out meal service is offered when the kitchens are open and we also offer ‘welcome hampers’, if contacted prior to arrival either by phone or website.

In summer months we are open 7 days a week, but in winter season offer food only at weekends, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Bar open daily noon - 2.30pm and 6pm until late. Weekends, the bar is open all day. Given 24 hours prior notice, we would be happy to open the kitchens for parties of people who need food outwith these times. Please enquire as we will always try our best to help with plans for hikers, cyclists, fisherfolk etc.

We are proud to cater for Kirkmaiden Luncheon Club on Thursdays between noon and 2pm: there is a reduced choice menu, but great value for money, and we welcome people of any age - you will find a happy and friendly atmosphere prevails throughout, and people who are less sprightly can eat in the bar downstairs for the same great price - £5.50p for 2 courses, £6.50p for 3 courses and free tea and coffee to follow. Beers and wines are also offered at these luncheons, if you so wish, table service with a smile.

THE BAR

bar

In our traditional bar we serve draught beers, including Belhaven, Guinness etc., as well as a variety of other beverages. These can be savoured on their own or used to accompany our freshly prepared food.

We open at 11am in summer, for fairly traded coffee and tea, as well as alcohol, bar snacks and light meals, which are available daily at lunchtimes and evenings.

All our meals are available in either the bar or the restaurant upstairs. The bar in winter offers a warm welcome with a log burning stove and comfy chairs. You may not wish to move upstairs!

NEWS & EVENTS

We are pleased to say that Stephen is still with us, working hard in the kitchen in addition to attending a college course to further hone his skills. Linda is working extremely hard to keep everything in order and The Ship afloat! She is doing much of the cooking with the more than able assistance of Denise.

Eric, meanwhile, is in charge of the bar and now has Val and Denise to help on a part time basis as well as the multi-skilled Stephen who helps in the bar in addition to cooking with Linda...

PARTIES & FUNCTIONS

We are able to cater for any private gatherings, small or large, up to fifty in our Bistro, with room for another fifteen or more downstairs. We offer meeting facilities if required for hourly or daily meetings, with high quality, discreet catering.

Unfortunately we no longer provide accommodation at the Inn but there are many B&Bs, self catering cottages and caravan sites available locally around Drummore if you wish to stay longer than just one day!
